Yeah, the worst thing I can do is make a proclamation – like “I’m going to write for 20 minutes each day!” – without looking at upcoming obstacles.
Last week I knew I had to travel south to care for my grandmother. She just had major back surgery. And my grandfather’s 95 year old mother was also in the house along with my own two kids.
It was not a writing week. It was a survival week. No creative writing. No business writing. Nothing but family. (As a side note, when my mom flew in to relieve me, there were five generations of my family under one roof. I know how lucky I am to have that.)
The key for my writing health is to remember that though life may temporarily halt momentum, I can get right back in the swing of things. There’s no need to feel like the writing momentum is shattered. I will write for 20 minutes every day starting…now!
