Between Work and Life, There Is No Balance: Ashburn Patch Article

A working mother struggles to devote enough time to her family and career.

“Work-life balance” has become a catch phrase that sells millions of dollars worth of books, seminars and even therapy. We are trying to figure out how to get it all done.

I’m taking six months of maternity leave with my son when he’s born. This is an unheard of thing to do in the United States, but that issue is a different column. What’s interesting is that my husband and I know we want our baby taken care of by “us” in the first six months. I scramble and stress to figure out how to cover my business for that time period. He mentions that he gets one week of paternity leave so he’s “good.”
